Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft has released a beta version of its free ‘Security Essentials’ antivirus software, originally code-named Morro. It is available to the first 75,000 subscribers in the US, Israel, Brazil and China.

The Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) will attempt to protect Windows users from viruses, spyware, rootkits and Trojans. It is meant to run in the background, without constantly bombarding users with security alerts or using a lot of system resources.Once installed, the software will automatically update. An Internet connection is required for installation and to update the latest virus and spyware definitions.

Company said it would make the antivirus software available in other countries later this year. The final version of MSE would be launched before end of the year. This software should work with most recent versions of Windows – XP, Vista and 7. It can be freely downloaded directly from Microsoft website.
